VANTAGE POINT WAS FOOYOH!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Mood: Excited Music: “If Tomorrow Never Comes” by Ronan Keating

Had a heavy but delictable lunch with Alvin at TGIF yesterday in Pyramid. I was so hungry so I had to order their RM39.90 set lunch menu. Chosed Mac & Cheese as starters. Steak Mignion (medium rare) as the main dish and Ice-cream Sundae as dessert. It was lovely. I think we sat there for almost 2 hours just chatting and doin catching up.

Was still early then and thought we go check out movies at TGV. Been hearing rave reviews about Vantage Point so we bought tickets and catch the 5pm show. True enough, the show was superbly AWESOME.

1) The story was told in an unconvensional way thru the eyes of 8 very different individuals.
2) The cinematography was fabulous, which causes so much stir n tension throughtout the movie.
3) Suspence and thrill from the very start to the very end. Thank goodness for the ocassional “breaks”
4) The movie have you questioning and wonder who is behind al lthe mess?
5) Story told from various angles which last for 23 minutes real time!

8.5/10 :p

PHOTOSHOOT - KOMAS WORKSHOP - CLUB MEETING - OPEN DAY MEETING!

Mood: Drained        Music: "Please Don’t Stop The Music" by Rihanna

Was rather late for today’s photoshoot at 11am cause seriously, the parking spaces INSIDE & AROUND the college was packed. I was circling around da area from 10.45am - 11.20am looking for a decent and safe parking space. As I walked into the RTT, Joe was already briefing the attendees. We’re suppose to dress up the way we envisioned ourselves 5 years later. I obviously came wearing black, equipped with my maglight, prompt book, black shoes and gaffer tape so I would give some hint that I’m a stage manager. This is for our department video which wil be used to market the course.

Well, according to Melissa, a WANNABE for now…aahahaha…!

Had a quick lunch at the cafetaria and printed my Production Schedule & Budggeting assignment to be handed in to Melissa. Went str8 to C4.1 for KOMAS Workshop where they featured an indie film made by a past contestant and gave us tips on submitting a film proposal to be made in this year’s Freedom Film Festival. Definitely a cool bunch with a good cause.

After the event, a few of us were supposed to have a meeting on our Drama + Film club but I found out then that there is already a Performance Club set up. Marched str8 into the student services department and got some details. Things were sorted out and made clear when I phoned the President (who is a friend of mine which i din’t know) and we did some catching up instead.

We carried out the club meeting with a temp-comittee featuring Mua, Soni, Faiq, Baloo, Sam Joanna Soh and Rebecca. We discussed a list of steps which I dug out from my Mgmt Texkbook which of course collected dust. From Vision/Objective to Mission Statement to Club Characteristics, Strategies and  Implementation to Evaluation. fooyoh, that took up almost 2 hours, just sitting there brainstorming and have constructive discussion. The club should be functioning in March :p

Puay Tin came in at 5.30pm and we had an hour meeting on Open Day performance line-up. I’m glad we’re moving forward and got a number of pieces confirmed. I’m looking forward to Tech-Run and hopefully everything wil lrun smoothly by then. Fingers crossed. Production/Stage Mananging the event for the department.

STEP UP 2: THE STREETS

Mood: Sleepy                      Music: "With You" by Chris Brown

It was pretty spontaneous of me to watch the movie. I was in front of my pc doing some paper work about 7ish and suddenly Joey drop me a msg in MSN asking whether have I seen the movie.

I was like…"There is actually a Step Up 2? A sequel?" And he was like YEA. Was wondering how come I did not see any trailers or posters around. Joey himself saw the trailer on Youtube.com. So I went to GSC.com and check da movie out and it seems it is already out. There were two shows left, one at 10pm and the other at 12.10qm.

Both Joey and me are suckers for dance movies cause we love dancing our butts off. Well, he is into breakdance of course while I’m more into stylish mainstream moves. So I decided to get da 12.10am movie which happens after cell group.

Da show wasn’t as good as I expected it to be. While Step Up 1 was more specialized in Ballet & hardcore hip hop, the sequel was a mixture of everything. From breakdance, to electric boogey to hip hop and jazz to ballet and krump to popping and steppin to latin salsa…it was like rojak lar.

Basically in the streets, you bring whatever flava you have on the floor as long as it is new and fresh but watching it on screen, da choreographies were nice but there wasn’t anything new lar. In the sequel, there were more storyline than dancin. Da main actress is hot though while Cassie who played the jealous girlfriend was pretty much a dissapointment since she played such a minor role with so little dance opportunity.

I’m giving da show 6/10 but if you need a spark of inspiration or just wanna relax and enjoy the saucy music, it is still ok to watch lar.

PRODUCTION LINE-UPS FOR 2008!

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Mood: Excited          Music: "Take You There" by Sean Kingston

This year is definitely gonna be one exciting ride for me. Plenty of production line-ups already in place and just waiting to be fulfilled.

Sunway University College Open Day - Will be assisting the department to come up with a performance line-up featuring some of the student’s work over the semester. Kinda like my first Production Stage Mgmt project where I’ll need to gather crew, create a rehearsal schedule, work out an agenda, set up the place and ensure a smooth run on the day itself.

Easter Production - Currently working very closely with Yvette with choreography and directing a short musical drama as well as a dance performance for Easter. Pretty happy with the development so far.

Experimental Theatre - Our remarkable Melissa Teoh will be debuting her first directorial project with my intake. Rehearsals will begin in March and the opening nite will be on May 16. Two solid months to come up with a good performance.

Graduating Performance - March 06 intake will have to work together very closely as united as possible to come up with stage production. Still scouting for scripts and keeping my fingers crossed. Rehearsals would begin in May and the opning nite should happen on July 19.

Internship - I’m already in the midst of scouting for a theatre company that would have a staging by the end of the year. They usually hire production personales like stage managers pretty early so I don’t wanna miss the ride. I’m hoping to work particularly on a musical cause the scale is usually large and you learn A LOT from there.

Written Musical - Most people do not know (till now) that I actually wrote a full fledge musical for the church (inspired by God). We’re planning to stage it at the end of the year. We’ve already begun with pre-production work and hoping to build the musical by August so we can start rehearsing. Gotta build every little thing from scratch since it is an original production. Fingers crossed too.

I’m pretty excited bout the line-up and I know everything will be good. In the process I’ll definitely sharpen my time mgmt skills. that’s all for now :p

2 MOVIES AT A GO!

Mood: Happy           Music: "Stop & Stare" by One Republic

Went over to Ah Pek’s house for CNY visitation. Get to see all my wonderful and grown up cousins at a go. Kong Kong looked really happy to see us.

Had a short game of Texas Hold’em with them and I amakn semua chips. Ahaha…din’t play with money cause it’s not right…(yea right)

Anywayz, I needed to go to mid Valley to drop some stuff off with Melissa and mom pulak wanted to watch a movie to relax. Went to gsc.com and checked the timing and for some crsazy reason, we decided to watch two movies instead since it was CNY and we were in a festive mood. The kids tag along as well.

Meet The Spartans is a BIG NO…NO! Yes, we are aware it is a stupid movie and thats why we pay the money for a good laugh…guess what? IT WASN’T FARNEY AT ALL and they ditched Britney 3 times. URGH. 2/10 for a really lousy movie.

Kunf Fu dunk on the other hand was quite entertaining, As much as Jay Chou was a poser (as usual), I thought he had a good eye for visuals and compostion throughout the whole movie since he is also the director. The storyline was good and all til lthe very end as it became too far-fetched. Other than that, we had a good time watching the show. Did a good job lar. 7.5/10!

PENANG SUMMARY :p

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Mood: Happy         Music: "Penang" from P.Ramlee: The Musical

So proud of meself for being able to drive my family up to Penang for the very first time. Dad couldn’t come with us so I brought Mom, Grandpa, Grandma and Eu Ston to Penang. The journey was definitely an interesting and educational as I learnt that towards North the road is windy especially b4 Ipoh! the journey was 3 hours and 40 minutes.

We stayed at Trader’s Hotel in the middle of the city next to Komtar as it was easy to get around and mom got special rates, ngek, ngek, ngek!

For some interesting reason, mom actually rembers landmarks very well as it was hassle free when we had to get to a specific location to eat certian food. Like the Esplanade for Mee Rebus Sotong and Ayer Itam for Assam Laksa. Gurney Drive was packed as usual so we decided to tar pau the food and sit next to the beach and makan there. People were crazily blowing fireworks all around the ocean.

I tried something really new n yummylicious this time round in Penang that I’ve never tried in mylife. Coconut Shake! Fooyoh, it was soooooooooo yummy that I regret I din’t order a second glass! See if I can create my own cocnut Shake at home or not!

I would say it was a fulfilling trip as we really makan from day til lnite non-stop and we get to eat all of our favourite food. I was so full that I din’t get to try Patsumbur. Maybe next round.

Driving home was really a hassle because there were occasional cralws and Grandpa got lost in Tapah resthouse. Yea, don’t ask! Took us 6 hours alltogether to reach home on Saturday.

Oh did I mention we tar pau 30 packets of Assam Laksa home?

CARE FOR YOUR CAR DAY!

Mood: Exausted             Music: "Cadillac" by Dreamgirls

Woke up like super early today (couldn’t even beat Melissa to it) to get my car checked n fixed for the new year. Me and mommy got up at 6.45am and drove ourselves all the way to Kia Service Center in Setapak. Why Setapak? Cause they are huge and they have more canggih equipments to handle your car compared to the mini Puchong wan. So proud of myself that I could actually remember how to get there without hassle.

Anywayz, with jam taken into consideration, we arrived at 8.45am and str8 away got our car in to the doctor’s office. It was one crazy wait alrite! If it wasn’t for mommy, our car would have been in the waiting line for hours. They finally brought our car in at 10.30am and by 12pm, we got some of the diagnosis. In short, the car is in pretty bad condition lar…

Dad came close to 3pm to pick us up and the saga wasn’t over. He left us at Kepong Garden to get the air-cond fixed for a cheaper price and we were there till 6.30pm.

By the end of it, me and mom got home with a slight headache! Horrible experience but someone got to do it.

BROADBAND BACK!

Mood: Happy           Music: "Radar" by Britney Spears

Some of you might have noticed that Adrian have been out of the virtual world for a week now. Had some problems with the modem which is 5 years old liao.

Finally, the Telekom guy decided to come and replace a new modem that is much more smaller in size and cooler. Their service is rather good and the customer service ppl were very…very helpful.
