GOODBYE KENNETH…AMBOI ADELINE!

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Mood     : Happy                                Music     : "Heavy…Heavy" by Dreamgirls

Got an unexpected call from Jeremy  this evening to go yam cha at 9pm. "Mana ade orang Yam Cha at 9pm wan?" I asked… But nevertheless, I went with Adeline RIGHT AFTER OUR DINNER. Din’t really know what was da occasion until we reached SS2 MURNI at 9.15. Turns out Kenneth who was in P.J for  months now is leaving for Melbourne again for his 4th and final year.

Had a good time chattin, and about 10.30pm, our dear friend Jeremy blurted out that Tuesday is EARTHQUAKE DAY at Swensen’s….50% off…Without thinking twice, our love for ice-cream consumed us and we headed str8 to Swensen’s. Ming Jie came at the perfect time to enjoy da dessert with us. We get to order 8 different flavours to form an earthquake and obviously, each of us got to pick our FAVs!

Went home by 11pm and Miss Adeline had some errands to run before she goes to work tomorrow. Based on the sms she received, reading it at 1st glance, she thought she had to hunt down a dvd that belongs to Jung Yee, which is needed urgently. We went to Damansara Perdana to collect the dvd from her Aunty. After waking up the family, after driving her all the way to DP and after all the trouble, she realized all Jung wants was a cd-dvd thingy she left on Adeline’s computer table.  All I can say is… PETROL IS CHEAP & THE PRICE IS FALLING! (Chuckles)

STAGE MANAGEMENT ROCKS…IT’S A WRAP!

Mood     : Accomplished                    Music     : "Friday Night" by N’Sync

And that wraps up my 7 weeks SHORT SEMESTER. Couldn’t think of a better way to end it. Thank you Melissa for the amazing experience. Today’s cue-calling session was AWESOME to da max. Whoever could enjoy exam this much man???

I was the 1st to go in the exam. Raw…fresh…blur…din’t know what to expect and I kept telling myself,  "it can’t be that bad…it can’t be that bad…everything will be fine…everything will be fine". (I made sure the nightmare I had many weeks ago did not come back to haunt me). Melissa gave us a good briefing at first and then it was my time to take the Stage Manager’s CONSOLE upstairs. My crew followed me up and she gave them briefing on how the lightboard and soundboard works while the cast waited downstairs.

Everything was in place as I told the cast & crew to standby. Melissa gave me an opportunity to talk to the cast & crew and I took that precious time to brief my crew how my cue-calling method works. Asked the house manager whether is the theatre ready and I went str8 to the PRESET and HOUSELIGHTS…b4 I could go on to the next light cue, the lightboard malfunction…I didn’t panic but sat there like a moron. One thing I was very sure of, my lightboard operator freaked out to the max. I was very sure he was more panic than me cause I kept telling myself to breath. i should have told him to breath too.

Everything went back to normal and I moved on with my cues, I think by the 4th cue, I got the hang of it. At the same time. my crew got pretty aquainted with the board as well. We definitely pick up momentum and just when we were about to reach the peak of our cue-calling session, the show came to an end. As far as I recall, I think my TIMING and FLOW for the production was quite ok…Giving myself a pat on the back cause I honestly can’t believe I got thru it safe and happy. Pretty happy with what I’ve done, thanks to my crew members as well.

Thank you FAIQ for doing a job welldone with the lightboard, SAM with the soundboard and Charlene the House Manager. And lastly, thank you PUAY TIN and MELISSA TEOH for this super-dooper-cool experience. HUGZZZZZZZZ…!!!

TORVALD HELMER WAS SOMEWHERE AROUND -_-”

Mood    : Learning                            Music     : "Keep Holding On" by Avril Lavign

Who is Torvald Helmer you ask? He is da husband to the protagonist, Nora, in A Doll’s House, a script we’ve been heavy analyzing for almost a month now. He is basically a guy who wants nothing but a happy family to come home to. He appears to be a loving and understanding husband when everything is going according to his way. A man living in a fantasy and does not see reality. He is a man of principle but at the same time afraid loosing reputation and status because that is what he has been striving to achieve. A thinker and a selfish person.

So yea, this is what I gathered and built as we analyze da script and today, during our script analysis examination, we were all suppose to perform excerpts off the script. I played Torvald while Zalikha played Nora and Soni played Mrs. Linde. We had fun working together during rehearsals and doing group works. Learnt from each other a lot and experienced interesting stuff together. And then today came, where 3 of us were suppose to showcase our analysis thru a performance on stage.

To me, it went well, though I have to agree with Anne James that we were indulging  our lines too much that it killed da flow that was meant to be for our scene. I kinda stuggled maintaning Torvald Helmer as well, so the other comment I got was that she saw Helmer on stage and occasionally Adrian on stage. I have this standing leg position habit that I have to break lar…ish! Other than that….errr…well thats all we got so hopefully we din’t do too bad. It was nerve wrecking as usual because there are millions of things running inside your brain as you take that step or say a line…nevertheless, i enjoyed myself…;p

CNY CUT SHORT…EXAM BEGINS!

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Mood     : Happy                                    Music     : "It’s All Over" by Dreamgirls

Weird rite? CNY cut short…exam began and yet i’m still happy. Some people might think I’m still high on my allergy pills or had too much beer. Honestly, thats so not da case. I’m happy because exam for me today went rather well. It wasn’t easy and it was thought heavy and answers don’t come from textbook and it requires spontaneous critical thinking and analysis. Just quite happy how much I’ve learnt and become throughout this very short and heavy, 7 weeks, short semester.

So this morning I booked the 9.15am slot with Melissa Teoh, my very cool, capable and admirable Stage Management lecturer. She’s an eye candy too for all of us boyz. Doubt she got time to read my blog since she is so busy with stage management job. Ahahaha…lecturer by day, stage manager by nite. You’ll love her because she is a pleasant person with loads of attitude.

Anywayz, this morning’s session with her was just the 1st phase of our exam. We were suppose to hand in our COMPLETED stage manager’s prompt book and go thru a series of interview questions as she flip thru our work. Man, her questions are so shockingly spontaneous and you would never see it coming. Sitting next to her, facing the pc was rather scary cause the last thing you wanna do is give her stupid answer and look stupid in front of her cause HELLO…that will cost you marks. But after I left da room, I couldn’t stop smilling to myself cause I actually had fun during the interview session. Not that i’m bragging I did well with my answers, in fact, most of them were crap to da max and were improvised on the spot. But I had a sweal of a time! She should have made the session longer!

After that, it was RUSH for me cause I had a 2 hour rehearsal session with my group for tomorrow’s exam performance. After that, around 11.45am, I had a 15 minute quick lunch cause had to be in the media room to watch Babel which is a 2 hour long movie. I watched middle to end and then beginning to middle. Had to finish writing a thesis of da movie regarding MODERNITY & MONTAGE b4 entering the next exam at 2pm. Managed to cover everything on time and our exam began at 3pm. From 3-5, we were suppose to answer 3 long essay questions regarding the entire course, Cinema: Modernity & Montage. Gotta remember all the concepts and theoratical stuff we learnt in the last 7 weeks and APPLY them in the questions and giving our own analytical interpretations of the different movie and films we watch previously dating from 1900 - 1990! Yes, almost a century worth of films!!!

Think my brain is officially fried by now. Wait a minute, if it is fried, how can I still think? Paradox? No..no more Ray Langenbach’s concepts and theory i me. Gotta rest and prepare myself as Helmer Torvald for tomorrow’s Script Analysis exam! wish me all da best :p

House decorated…checked!
Fridge filled with stuff…checked!
Cabinets filled with stuff…checked!
Bedroom cleaned…checked!

Yeap, all set for da pork year! We basically covered the entire Mutiara Damansara Complex today. Started off IKEA cause I needed to get a new chair for meself. Broke two already since I got a heavy arse. Spent tea time there. Then we hopped to IKANO to get fresh stuff from Cold Storage. Had dinner at THE CURVE b4  moving on to TESCO to get remaining stuff. Left at 5pm and got home at 10pm. Did some bedroom spring cleaning while mom sort the stuff and decorated the hall.

11pm, me and Adeline went to Ming Yang’s place for "open-table" session. While waiting for the rest, Adeline introduced me to SPEED, a two-player card game which requires FOCUS & CONCERTRATION TO DA MAx. She beat me to it alrite. The rest came and we played a few rounds of Texas Hold’em. Is basically the poker game featured in Casino Royale. Either you win all or loose all. Back at 1.30pm now and about to assemble my new chair b4 I call it a day.

Study for exam…not checked! -_-"

Mood     : Upset                        Music     : "Steppin To The Bad Side" by Dreamgirls

Whoever knows me well, they know I EAT almost anything and everything under the sun, simply because I LOVE food! Guess what, my 22+ years of living, I got my very first life-treatening ALLERGIC REACTION today, during lunch time. Yes, I repeat life-treatening!

Got up around 12ish, watched tv and had dad’s home-cooked seafood porridge for lunch. Sweatest and exspensive porridge ever. Dried scallops and abalone shellfish porridge. That was 1pm. By 2pm, while watching HBO, my eye started to feel uncomfortable from within. It began to swell, and I started to tear non-stop. I promise I wasn’t feeling down or depressed at that time. It just kept on leaking like a sink that is rosak. Then, minutes later, I felt difficulty in breathing and I felt discomfort around my lung area. Within minutes, my nose started to run and my throat started to itch.

I told mommy, something awful is wrong with me and ironically, I kinda guessed that I had some sort of allergic reaction eventhough I NEVER experienced one before. We rushed to the nearby clinic at our house and as the name suggest, it was definitely CLINIC READY. The doctor saw me and heard my story and instantly got all the EMERGENCY EQUIPMENTS out cause she knew it was a cronic allergic reaction I was  experiencing

FIRST, came the needle into my elbow, straight into the blood system. Then followed by NEBILIZER, that oxygen mask thingy to breath through. Next, was another needle poke straight into my skin, that was adrenalin to keep my heart beating. Lastly, went back to the bed and had a last jap into my arse. That was anti-histemin. Laid comfortably on the bed for a good 30 minutes and my body soon came back to normal. Shaky all over though cause da adrenalin steroid thingy got me little high by making my heart pound like mad!

Now, I am on 4 types of heavy pills to keep my body stable. Can’t believe my body is rejecting toxifying seafood already. Thank goodness it did not reject pork! So yea, no more toxicating seafood for me already. What a way to kick-off new year! thank you Lord for saving my life…;p

DREAMGIRLS FOR THE SECOND TIME!

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Mood     : Inspired                        Music     : "One Night Only (Disco)" by Dreamgirls

Hmm, what can I say…The show is just amazing and spectacular. Glad the musical was transformed into a movie. The first time I watched it was at a special screening in KLCC weeks ago. Today, brought mommy to GSC at 1Utama for da SNEAK PREVIEW.

Got the soundtrack from Tower Records 2 weeks ago and my car is filled with MO-TOWN soul ever since. Da tracks are catchy and fun. Get’s you movin in da car along with it and that really helps, especially early in da mornin on the way to college and during rush hour!

The cast were incredible. From acting to using their powerful voice…my…my, so not for da faint-hearted. You are warned, if you ain’t a musical lover, don’t bother to watch the show. Some annoying ppl in da cinema were killing the atmosphere when they make sighing sounds and unnecessary comments during the singing parts. HELLO…it’s a musical…(roll eyes all over)! How blonde can these ppl be?

Having said that, this movie is more than just a singing musical. Is bout history of black music, is about the human stuggle and breakthrough, is about change in time and changes in ppl along with it, is about dreams…the different concepts of dream, is about the music industry, is about culture, is about LIFE!

Have fun….giving it 10/10!!! Thats right, a perfect 10/10!!! ENJOY..

Mood     : Accomplished                        Music     : "One Night Only" by Dreamgirls

Had dinner at Delifrance b4 we did any shopping. Their 3 course meal set was really something. I wouldn’t say it was exquisite though. Something interesting and experimental.

Phew, and we thought our cabinet and fridge is gonna be empty for CNY! mission accomplish. Had to do two waves. One hour in Jusco and another hour in Giant. Pretty much prep up for da festive season liao. Do come over for a time of fellowship. Will be preparing some of my specialties for guests, friends and relatives.

Also, finally got meself Dreamgirls’ Soundtrack. My car is gonna be so soulful for the next few months. I’m loving it!!!

BEEN TIEP-UP & EPIC MOVIE!

Mood     : Tired                                    Music     : "One Night Only" by Dreamgirls

Not been posting much in my blog recently cause I’ve been so busy with college work and working for da paper. Don’t get me wrong, not that I’m complaining, still enjoy and love what I’m doing. Is just da whole SHORT SEMESTER thingy been eating up all my spare time. 14 weeks worth of courses taught in 7 weeks and I’m doing 3 units. In my 5th week now and exam is just around da corner. Everyday is due date for some work.

I’m usually in college from 10am - 5pm. By da time I reach home, it will be almost 6 and b4 i could settle down, it is time for dinner and out for meeting somewhere. Other times, I would take a really good nap and do my work after mid-nite cause thats where my brain is really active. Also making sure I meet my DEADLINEs for R.AGE. Basically, every Thursday I must submit da Arts Section and Tuesdays I’ll need to make sure I post a blog entry at da website, www.rage.com.my. Once in a while, BOSS will give me some assignments to cover around KL city.

Ok, let’s talk bout EPIC MOVIE! Total waste of money. Yes, I would admit there are certain scenes that are farney to the core, but generally, they have taken this spoof movie over the top. So lame till you can’t really laugh. Plus, i’m minusing two points from them cause they made fun of Britney. Ish….geramnya!!! 4/10 points for da movie. Make sure you’ve watched Charlie & The Chocolate factory, The Chronicles of Narnia, Superman Returns, X-Men, loads of MTV programmes, Snakes on the Plane, Nacho Libre, Pirates of the Carribean and Jackie Chan movies to understand da spoofs!
